Myron H. Opperman

Myron H. Opperman, 89, New Knoxville, died Sept. 13, 2014, at OSU Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Shelby County, to Herman and Anna Nolte Opperman. On Aug. 28, 1948, he married Henrietta Egbert, who died in 1978. He married Wavalene Bradford on May 23, 1980, and she survives at the residence.

Also surviving are two children, Steven (Linda) Opperman, St. Marys, and Karla (Michael) Curta, Aurora, Colo.; three stepchildren, Judy (Jerry) Kuck, New Knoxville, Karen (Don) Smith, New Bremen, and Bob (Deb) Kruse, New Knoxville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Jean) Opperman, Fostoria, and Marvin Opperman, St. Marys; a sister, Marjorie Maier, Prescott, Wis.; and two sisters-in-law, Julia Opperman, Bluffton, and Doris Will, Fort Wayne.

Also deceased are an infant son, Michael, and four siblings, Vernon Opperman, Edward Opperman, Frederick Opperman and Dorothy Jung.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Philippines as an MP. He retired from Hoge Lumber Co., New Knoxville. He was the former mayor of New Knoxville and an active member of the First United Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder and deacon. He was a member of American Legion Post 444, New Knoxville.

He loved to travel in his motor home and was a member of the Good Sam Club, wintering in Florida each year. He was a very avid reader of all kinds of books, enjoyed watching sports and loved spending time with his family. He was an expert woodworker and made many cherished family heirlooms for his children and grandchildren
