Frederick W. Howe

Frederick William Howe, 95, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Cridersville Healthcare Center.

He was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Van Buren Township in Shelby County, the son of Lewis and Malinda (Althoff) Howe who preceded him in death.

On March 1, 1944, he married Mary Weber Howe, and she survives him.

Other survivors include two children, Anna (Michael) Loy, of Botkins and Dan Howe, of Wapakoneta; a grandson, Ryan (Krystal) Loy, of Wapakoneta; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Noah Loy, of Wapakoneta; and three sisters, Mildred Shellenberger, of New Knoxville, Opal White, of Mentor and Gloria Elsass, of Sidney.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Lammers, Marie Billing, and Virginia Fullenkamp.

Frederick was a graduate of Anna High School, and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He was employed by the G.A. Wintzer & Son Co., as a night watchman, retiring in 1982 after 38 years service. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Wapakoneta, and a life member of American Legion Post 444, New Knoxville. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State University Buckeyes, and he also enjoyed gardening.
