
Don R. Maurer

He was born August 9, 1950, in Sidney, Ohio, the son of Richard and Edith (Schroer) Maurer.
He married Sara Schmidt on June 4, 1971, at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ in Saint Marys, and she survives at the residence.
He is also survived by his sons: Richard (Trisha) Maurer of Muncie, Indiana; Scott (Bobbi) Maurer of Bellbrook, Ohio; by two grandsons: Nathaniel Maurer of Hagerstown, Indiana; Cameron Maurer of Marion, Indiana. He is survived by a sister, Rita Schmidt of Findlay, Ohio; a brother, Paul (Shirley) Maurer of New Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was a 1968 graduate of New Knoxville High School, and a graduate of ITT in Dayton with an Associate’s Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. He worked in construction most of his life, retiring in 2012.
He was a veteran of the US Army, having served from 1971-73. He was a member of American Legion Post 444 in New Knoxville for more than 50 years, a member of the New Knoxville Gun Club, was a lifetime member of the NRA, and a lifetime member of the First Church of New Knoxville. In his spare time, Don enjoyed woodworking, hunting and spending time with his grandsons.
